Create 2D Blank Shapes from Complex 3D Models

VISI Blank is designed for estimators, engineers, sheet metal product designers, and tool and die makers who need to optimize the development of sheet metal components and analyze material behavior during the forming process. Estimators can generate a quick blank representation in minutes to identify potential manufacturing problems, determine material costs, and streamline the production process. Designers can use the rapid analysis to pinpoint areas of a component that may need to be modified to reduce manufacturing costs. For toolmakers, the application is invaluable for identifying areas of a component that will require a single draw operation rather than multiple forming stages.

VISI Blank is particularly useful for generating blank forms in the sheet metal, progressive die, press tooling, and crash tooling industries. It integrates seamlessly with VISI Modelling, using the industry-standard Parasolid kernel combined with proprietary surface modeling and 2D design technology.

Intuitive Interface

The straightforward user interface makes it quick and easy to generate blank forms from complex geometry, interpret results through a graphical display, and identify the optimum manufacturing process. A comprehensive material database ensures that analysis can be performed on virtually any material your shop works with.

Graphical Representation

Results are presented in a clear, concise graphical display that can be exported to a report sheet format. Graphical analysis includes color-coded representation of material areas susceptible to thinning and wrinkling, enabling accurate identification of potential problem areas before physical die design begins. The graphical scale identifies where material is within tolerance and flags any areas that may exceed it.

Blank Form Development

Virtually any 3D form can be flattened into a developed blank to ensure the optimum amount of stock material is used for production — reducing supplementary manufacturing or finishing operations. The blank form can typically be generated within a few minutes and has a proven accuracy within 1% of the finished component. The manual or traditional CAD approach to this same task would typically require many hours of calculation and deliver significantly less accuracy.
