ESPRIT Network Licenses Installation Guide

The process outlined here is a common approach for managing licenses across multiple computers in a network, where the software is installed on each computer, and a license server manages the distribution of the license(s) to these computers.

Step 1: Setting Up Your License Server

NOTE: Before making changes to the server settings, ensure that ESPRIT is not currently in use on any of the client computers. This step prevents license access issues during the setup process.

1. Install the ESPRIT Server Security Manager:

  • Locate the ESPRIT Server Security Manager installer. This can be found on the ESPRIT installation ISO.
  • Install the ESPRIT Server Security Manager on your server computer. This software is crucial for managing and securing your ESPRIT licenses across the network.

2. Install the S License:

It is crucial to run the Server Security Manager as Admin.

  • On the Security Manager (x64) toolbar select the blue activation button located at the top left

  • Select activate or get license with the internet
  • Enter your customer code and serial number located on your ESPRIT USB security key (S License)

NOTE: Most server licenses are machine-bound now, so they don’t need a physical dongle.
  • Select finish
  • You can set any license as a default by double-clicking the license, a green arrow will show next to it indicating that it has been set as a default.
  • Click on the Start Server button.

NOTE: If no license shows under the security manager, review Trusted Storage Issue.

Step 2: Preparing Client Computers

1. Install ESPRIT:

  • Install the ESPRIT software using the provided installation files on each client computer that requires access to ESPRIT.
  • Follow the installation prompts to complete the setup on each computer.

2. Configure Server Connection:

  • On the Security Manager (x64) toolbar, click the blue activation button at the top left
  • Select "add server connection"
  • Type in the IP address of the license server in both the name field and the IP address field (note: it is preferable for connection speed if you only use the IP address for both fields, but you can browse to the server instead)
  • You should then see the licenses shown under the server PC name
  • Close the security manager and you can now open ESPRIT.

NOTE: On a client computer, try opening ESPRIT. If the setup is correct, the software should launch without any licensing errors, verifying a successful connection to the license server.

If no license shows on the client’s security manager, follow the steps below.

Firewall Settings/Port Configuration ESPRIT Server License

NOTE: Port configuration depends on IT server setup:

  • Port Lockdown: If IT locks ports, adjust configurations for security.
  • Open Communication: If ports are open, still optimize for performance and security.

  5. Create a New Rule: On the right pane, click "New Rule" to initiate the creation of a new inbound rule.
  6. Rule Type: In the "New Inbound Rule Wizard," select "Port" as the type of rule you want to create and click "Next."
  7. Protocol and Ports: Choose "TCP" for the protocol. Then, select "Specific local ports" and enter "13579" as the port number before clicking "Next."
  8. Action: Choose "Allow the connection" as the action this rule will take when a connection matches it. Click "Next."
  9. Profile: Select when this rule should apply. You can choose from Domain, Private, or Public networks. It's common to leave all options checked unless you have a specific need to restrict it. Click "Next."
  10. Name and Description: Give your rule a name, such as "Allow Inbound TCP Port 13579," and if you like, provide a description to remember why you created this rule. Click "Finish."
  11. When done follow the same steps for Outbound rules for TCP Port 13579

  6. Rule Type: In the "New Outbound Rule Wizard," select "Port" as the rule type and click "Next."
  7. Protocol and Ports: Choose "TCP" as the protocol. Select "Specific local ports," enter "13579" as the port number, and then click "Next."
  8. Action: Select "Allow the connection" as the action to be taken when a connection matches this rule and click "Next."
  9. Profile: Choose when this rule applies (Domain, Private, Public). It's common to leave all three checked unless you have a specific network configuration in mind. Click "Next."
  10. Name and Description: Give your rule a name, such as "Allow Outbound TCP Port 13579," and provide a description if desired. This helps you remember the purpose of the rule later. Click "Finish."

NOTE: When adding the Outbound rule it will typically default to block the connection. Make sure to select ALLOW the connection, otherwise, it will not pass. Once you have followed these steps you can click the green refresh button in the ESPRIT Security Manager on the client and the licenses should populate under the server connection.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Trusted Storage Issue
  • Manual Installation of SQL 2014 (This may happen when installing 20xx)
  • Firewall and Network Settings: Confirm that any firewall settings on the server allow connections from the client computers. Both the ESPRIT Server Security Manager and client ESPRIT Security Manager need network access to communicate.
  • Correct Server Details: Double-check the server connection details entered in the ESPRIT Security Manager on client computers for accuracy.
  • Server Service Running: Ensure the service for the ESPRIT Server Security Manager is actively running on the server.
